Viking golfers were on their game Tuesday at the Bismarck State Mystic Open.
Shane Ost and Ben Sorenson finished first and second during the meet at Prairie West Golf Course in Mandan, and led VCSU to a team victory as well.
"This is the first time since we reinstated golf at VCSU that we've had a 1-2 finish individually," said head coach Jamie Paurus. "Our entire men's team played well to post a 307 team score and win the meet, but Shane and Ben played extremely well individually to take home top honors."
Ost continued his hot start to the fall season with an even par 72 as he won medalist honors at the 18-hole meet. He narrowly edged his teammate Sorenson, who carded a 1-over 73. Ost and Sorenson were two of only three golfers to shoot 75 or under.
VCSU's Jake Richels and Beau Diegel each shot an 80 to finish tied for 8th, and Tyler Stevens carded an 81 to tie for 10th.
VCSU took two men's teams to the meet. The team of Ost, Sorenson, Richels, Darren Young and Casey Colemer won the meet with a 307 total. They edged Bismarck State by six shots. Diegel, Stevens, Trevor Justesen and Cody Colemer finished in 4th with a 334.
On the women's side, Haley Christofferson played well for the second straight year at Prairie West, recording a Top 3 finish as she tied for 3rd with an 89. Christofferson was 8 shots back of the medalist position. Last year, she took 2nd during a meet at Prairie West. VCSU's Alyssa Tait also had a Top 10 finish Tuesday, tying for 10th with a 102.
Up next: VCSU plays at the Lake Region State College Invitational on Sept. 8-9. The meet will be at Creel Bay Golf Course in Devils Lake.
