WBB: Vikings Pull Away in the Second Half in Home Victory

The Valley City State University Viking Women used solid shooting in the second half to eliminate a one point half time deficit and pull away with a 68-60 win over NCAA Division II University of Minnesota-Crookston.

The Vikings shot 15-26 in the second half for 57.7% from the floor and sealed it with 10 of 14 shooting from the free throw line.

The Golden Eagles were hounded by the Viking defense, turning the ball over 24 times in the game and shooting only 23.8% (5-21) from the three point line in the loss.

Senior Courtney Titus led three Valley City State players in double figures with 18 points. Brittany Lehner and Alyssa Hummel rounded out the double digit scorers with 14 and 11 respectively. Lehner narrowly missed a double-double pulling down nine rebounds in the game.

In the game the Vikings controlled the glass outrebounding UM-Crookston 40-24.

The win moves Valley City State to 2-1 on the season. The Vikings will host their third straight NCAA Division II and NSIC opponent on Wednesday when St. Cloud State comes to the W. E. Osmon for an exhibition game. Tip-off is set to begin at 7:00 PM.
