Valley City State (1-1) was beaten on Friday in their 2012-2013 home debut in an exhibition game by NCAA Division II Minnesota State University Moorhead in overtime by a 67-64 score. Because the game was labeled as an exhibition for the Vikings, the loss did not count on their overall record for the season. The Vikings leading scorer, junior Brittany Lehner, was limited in the game due to illness. Despite Lehner's absence the Vikings had four players in double figures. VCSU continued its high pressure team defense versus the Dragons forcing 29 MSU-M turnovers. The Golden Eagles defeated Valley City State a year ago at the W. E. Osmon Fieldhouse 76-60. The Opponent: University of Minnesota-Crookston comes 'The Bubble' for their first official game of the 2012-13 season. To this point, the Golden Eagles have played two exhibition games, both versus NCAA Division I opponents. UM-C was beaten by South Dakota State 86-43 before dropping a closely contested game versus North Dakota State University 68-65. UM-Crookston finished last season 9-17 and return their leading scorer from a year ago, senior Brittany Wiese. Wiese averaged over 15 points a game for the Golden Eagles last season.
