WBB: Vikings move above .500

The Valley City State women's basketball team moved above .500 for the first time this season Friday by defeating Northern New Mexico 73-52 in Denver, Colo.

The win improves Valley City's record to 7-6. The Vikings have won three games in a row and four of their last five to climb above .500.

Brittany Lehner scored 19 points and Sierra Even poured in 16 for the Vikings, who led 42-26 at halftime. Lehner went 8-for-11 from the field and added six rebounds. Even knocked down 4 of 9 3-point attempts and had seven rebounds and four assists to go with her 16 points.

Stephanie Pedersen added nine points. Courtney Dixon and Sadiqah Jihad each scored eight.

After leading 42-26 at halftime, the Vikings opened the second half on a 20-4 run, building their biggest lead of the game at 62-30.

VCSU will wrap up their trip to Denver on Saturday, playing Johnson and Wales at 5 p.m. MST.
