Tradition |
What is the
Viking Volleyball Tradition? It's best expressed
in the slogan heard in the gym, worn on t-shirts,
and chanted by supportive fans in the heat of battle.
That slogan-----Dig or Die. We feel that we carry
a little bit of magic to every contest that we play.
It helps us overcome tremendous odds, it helps us
fight back from extreme deficits, it helps us when
we are short-handed, and it helps us accomplish
what others think we cannot do. Some people define
this type of magic as just plain old-fashioned luck.
Those people don't know who we are! It's not luck.
Rather, it's commitment to a philosophy. It's hardwork,
it's commitment to one another, it's the belief
that greatness comes to those who have the courage
to persevere; and perhaps most importantly, it's
knowing that "we are what we repeatedly do. Excellence
is not an act, but a habit!"
Our excellence hinges on the elements of what embodies
the meaning of "Dig or Die". It's about effective
leadership, integrity, determination, pride, and
teamwork. It's about what we do because of who we
are. The Viking tradition is about a family of sorts.
Once you step into your first Viking uniform and
then the moment you first step on the court in that
uniform, you understand that you are part of something
special. You are a Viking. Nobody can replace it,
nobody can take it away from you, and nobody can
tell you it doesn't matter.
So when the crowd stands to their feet and starts
chanting "Dig or Die" in deafening volumes, you
see something extra appear on the court. Why, because
all of a sudden it's about a lot more than the game-----it's
about who we are. |
