Savannah McMillin led the Vikings with two doubles on the day in their first games of the Tucson Invitational Games.

Valley City State lost a heart breaker in game one and was out gunned in game two on opening day at the Tucson Invitational Games in Arizona.

The Vikings battled back from a 3-0 deficit to Madonna University (MI) to tie the game in the home half of the fifth and had chances to take the lead in the next inning but couldn't cash in runners at 2nd and 3rd before Madonna scored the winning run in the top of the 7th to steal the game one victory.

Sam Nalley was took the tough luck loss scattering seven hits and allowing two earned runs, walking two and striking out a season high eleven hitters.

Valley City State was led by Savannah McMillin and Adrianna Boychuk who each hit two for three with both of McMillin's hits going for doubles.

In game two it was all Olivet Nazarene as they took advantage of early Viking miscues to race out to an early five to one lead with four of those runs unearned, before eventually talking on four more for the mercy shortened game.

The #12 ranked Olivet Nazarene pounded out ten hits in the six innings while their pitchers kept the Vikings at bay allowing only four hits scattered throughout the Valley City State lineup.

Starter Torri Fenton threw well but fell victim to four early Viking errors.

Valley City State will return to the Tucson Invitational Games on Saturday when they play Calumet College of St Joseph (IN) at 1:30 MST and fellow A.I.I./Frontier Conference opponents University of Great Falls at 6:30 MST.
