The Valley City State University Viking Softball bats were silent Saturday as they dropped their third straight game to start the season 3-0 to Minot State University.

The Vikings only mustered two hits in the game, back to back singles by Hilary Kulczewski and Liz Hall, who both eventually were stranded at second and third in VCSU's only scoring threat of the day.

The game was a battle of pitchers and defense. The Vikings Sam Nalley threw well, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out five and walking two while the defense behind her played errorless ball for the first time this season.

As good as Nalley was, the Beavers Tiffany Friesen was dominant. Friesen struck out thirteen, walked none and allowed only the two hits to post the shut out win over Valley City State.

The loss drops the Vikings to 0-3 to start the season. They will wrap up their trip to St. Cloud State University on Sunday by playing in conference rival Dickinson State at 10:00 am.
