Victoria TX: The Viking Men’s Golf team competed in the AII National Qualifier on April 29th-30th playing 18 holes day one and 36 holes day two while placing 8th overall. This was the first and only tournament the men played this spring due to three tournaments being cancelled because of weather. Day one the men struggled on the opening 18 holes but improved by 21 strokes on day two’s opening 18. Freshman Ben Sorenson (Valley City, ND) lead the team with a 54 hole total of 245 placing 31st individually. Rounding out the team was Sophomore Sean Krall (Valley City, ND) placing 36th, Freshman Darren Young (Leeds, ND) 37th, Senior Matt Sorenson (Valley City, ND) 39th, and Senior Ryan Lenoue (Barnesville, MN) 40th. The team’s season was highlighted with a win in their first fall tournament hosted by Jamestown College and scoring 300 as a team in the opening round of the Cobber Open. Next season looks promising with eight golfers returning in which five players received valuable playing time throughout the year as part of the five person scoring team.
