The Valley City State University football program is starting a freshman mentoring program this spring. The Vikings will be working with new players to the program to help orient them to the university, the football program and the community in a more formal fashion next fall.
The coaching staff has named specific mentors for each incoming player and already begun the mentoring process. Current players helped in the recruiting process and made contact with signees to both congratulate and encourage them. The veteran players will continue to work with the new student-athletes through next fall by smoothing their transitions to college life and their roles as teammates.
“I’m excited about the ideas our players and staff have instituted,” says Head Coach Dennis McCulloch. “Some of these things we already do as a staff and team. We just wanted to make sure we held each other accountable to the team and that each new player knows he has a ‘go-to guy’ on the team if he has questions or needs anything.”
