from the desk of Dennis McCulloch...
The End I can't believe the season is over already. It seems just yesterday that I was talking about our excitement to start the season. The season ending is always difficult for me. It brings an end to so many things. I have to say goodbye to our 13 seniors who have dedicated themselves to our program. These guys have all left a lasting impact on our program and I know they will all have a tremendous amount of success as they move forward with their lives. Thanks seniors for all your hard work and dedication to Viking Football! Ken Eliacin 5 years Aaron Freije 5 years Thomas Grossell 3 years Alex Hooey 3 years Garrett Jackson 6 years Tyler Kosel 5 years Marshall Krebs 5 years Jake Olsen 5 years Jordan Owen 2 years Pat Pirner 5 years Troy Still 2 years Tommy Zinke 5 years We finished our regular season with an exciting comeback win over Robert Morris 21-20. It is a great measure of a team that faces that type of adversity and responds the way they did in the second half. We were down 20-0 at halftime. It would have been easy for the guys to give up and make excuses but the team came out the second half determined to play better football. That was our best half of football all season long. The offense came out and dominated the 3rd quarter scoring on three straight possessions. Our defense fed off the success of the offense and shut down a very good Eagle team the rest of the way. With eight seconds left the RMU missed a short field goal. The celebration in the end zone with our 13 seniors was a memory that will be with me for a lifetime. With that win we finished the season 7-3 and ranked #24 in the final NAIA poll and the Vikings will be the top Independent football team. I hope that you have enjoyed following Viking Football this year and will continue to support our football program. I look forward to the challenges for the future and hope that you will be a part in helping us continue the winning tradition. I cannot wait for Saturday, August 31st our opening game vs. Jamestown College!
