The Valley City State Vikings host rival Jamestown College Jimmies this weekend for their second match up of the year. The Vikings (5-2) are coming off a 16-0 win over NCAA Division III Gustavus Adolphus. The Jimmies (2-5) are coming off a homecoming 8-7 loss against Dickinson State. The Vikings will try and hold onto the Paint Bucket Trophy they claimed from the Jimmies earlier this season by winning their first match up 13-10. Game time is set for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Shelly Ellig Field

Viking Highlights

The 16-0 win over Gustavus marked the Vikings first defensive shutout since Aug. 28, 2010 against Trinity Bible College.

Thomas Cortez (FR, K, Hiaku, HI ) completed three field goals in the win

Matt Craft (JR, DL, Fairbanks, AK) also added a blocked field goal attempt by Gustavus in the third quarter

Vikings defense ranks number 11 in Division I in Total Sacks by (22)

Vikings offense ranks number 19 in Rushing Offense per game (198.9)

JC Scouting Report

In the Jimmies loss to the Dickinson Bluehawks, defense led the way; FR LB Ram Flores had two of the Jimmies' six sacks

JR LB C.J. Costello added an interception

JR DB J.T. Petsch led in tackles with 12

Paint Bucket History

Student associations from Valley City State University and Jamestown College met in January of 1961 and established the Paint Bucket Series.
The Paint Bucket Trophy, symbolic of the rivalry or past years shall be presented to the team emerging victorious in the annual VCSU versus JC football game. The trophy shall have the year and that school's name engraved on the base and remain in the possession of that school until the following year and game when it, as in years to follow, will again be presented to the school emerging victorious.

Let it therefore be known that on the twenty-eighth day of October in the nineteen hundred and sixty first year of our Lord, that, with the football game between VCSU and JC, the heretofore described Paint Bucket Series shall commence.
