Golf: Spring season begins with one round in Iowa

The Valley City State men's golf team took eighth place Friday during the first meet of the spring.

VCSU shot a 329 team total on Friday at the Iowa Intercollegiate Championships in Moravia, Iowa. Day 2 of the event on Saturday was cancelled due to cold temperatures.

The Viking men were led by Ben Sorenson, who carded 76 to finish tied for 13th overall. Casey Colemer shot a 79 to tie for 28th. Tyler Stevens (86), Darren Young (88) and Jake Richels (88) rounded out the team's scores.

Two Viking men golfed unattached. Trevor Justesen shot an 84 and Beau Diegel finished with a 90.

Cardinal Stritch's top team took 1st place with a 290 team total. Cardinal Stritch also had two players who tied for medalist honors after shooting a 71.

On the women's side, VCSU had one player compete. Haley Christofferson carded a 98 in the first round of the season, finishing in 34th place.
