The Valley City State golf team is scheduled to open the spring portion of its 2013-14 season with a meet this weekend in Iowa.

The Vikings are scheduled to compete at the Iowa Intercollegiate Championships, hosted by William Penn University on Friday and Saturday at The Preserve Golf Course in Moravia, Iowa. The tournament was moved up a day to avoid possible cold weather on Sunday. Today's forecast calls for highs in the 50's and Saturday calls for highs near 40 degrees.

Valley City State's men are coming off a very successful fall golf season where they took 1st at one meet and placed 2nd in four other events. Two Vikings, Shane Ost and Jake Richels, won individual medalist honors during the fall season.

The Vikings hope the 2014 spring is better to them than last year, when uncooperative weather canceled every meet but the NAIA National Qualifier. This year, VCSU's national qualifier meet will be the North Star/Midlands Conference Championships in late April at Ashland, Neb.
