VCSU's Men's team traveled to Jamestown on Wednesday to participate in an eighteen hole tournament to start their season. Battling teams from Jamestown College, Dickinson State, Bismarck State, Lake Region State and Division II Northern State of Aberdeen, the Viking Men played well enough to capture 1st place by 7 strokes over runner-up Jamestown College.

The hot (temperatures in the high 90s) and windy (winds blowing at 25 mph) conditions were a challenge to the Viking men, however not enough of a challenge to keep them from winning the first tournament of the season.

Vikings were led by a pair of true freshmen in Darren Young (Leeds, ND) with a 77 good for 2nd Place, and Ben Sorenson (Valley City, ND) with a 78 that placed him in a tie for 3rd. Ryan LeNoue (Jr. Barnesville, MN) placed 5th with a 79 and Casey Colemer (Jr. Lisbon, ND) carded an 80 that was good for 7th place.

'We played good team golf today, however there are several areas that we can improve on.' said Co-Head Coach Jamie Paurus. 'We will have 1 day of practice before we play against some top teams at the Concordia Invitational in Moorhead, MN this weekend.'

Viking Men travel to Moorhead for a 36 hole tournament on Friday and Saturday at Village Green Golf Course and The Meadows Golf Course. Tuesday next week both the Ladies and Men travel to Mandan for a 1 day tournament at Prairie West Golf Course.
