Shane Ost, a 2011 graduate of Valley City High School has signed a letter of intent to attend Valley City State University and join the Viking golf team.
Shane was a five year letter winner for the Valley City Hi-Liners while winning and placing in the top ten in several tournaments including the medalist honors at the Class 'B' Region I Tournament in 2010 held at Dakota Winds Golf Course in Hankinson, ND. Ost was a key member of the Hi-Liner golf team that won the 2010 State Class 'B' Golf Tournament, and received All-State honors with a top ten performance. Shane has qualified for the Championship Flight at the prestigious 'Pine to Palm' Golf Tournament in 2011. In 2010 to 2011, he was invited to play in the very competitive Minnesota Junior PGA Tour, and he has several top ten finishes on the tour.
'Valley City State University is excited to have a golfer of the quality of Shane commit to VCSU, said co-head golf coach Jamie Paurus. 'His experience in big tournaments will lead the way to an easy transition to the college game.'
'We have watched Shane mature and grow on the golf course over the last six years,' said VCSU co-head golf coach, Rick Ross. 'His experience and success in big tournaments with the Hi-liners, on the Minnesota Junior PGA Tour, and against the elite golfers in the area at the Pine to Palm Tournament will provide him the ability to have an immediate impact. We are pleased to have Shane join us.'
Shane is the son of Tim and Nancy Ost of Valley City. Shane's sister, Tiffany, is a 2008 graduate of VCSU, and Shane's grandmother received her bachelor degree from VCSU.
Shane will join the Vikings in the fall of 2012.
