Golf: Viking men take 8th at MCAC/NSAA Championships

The Valley City State men's golf team took 8th place at the MCAC/North Star Conference Championship meet in Nebraska.

Men's teams played 36 holes on day one of the tournament. The third round scheduled for Tuesday was canceled due to rain. The Vikings shot a 337 in round one, and then improved by 20 shots on their second round with a 317.

Jake Richels was the top Viking. The freshman carded an 83 in round one, but came back with a team-best 74 in round two. He tied for 20th. Darren Young (80-81) tied for 25th, and Ben Sorenson (87-80) tied for 32nd. Shane Ost (87-84) took 35th, and Casey Colemer (92-82) was 37th.

Bellevue University won the tournament by 28 shots with a two-round total of 572 (280-292). Mike Hannon of Bellevue won the individual race with a 141 (69-72).

On the women's side, competitors played 18 holes on Monday before Tuesday's second round was rained out. VCSU's Haley Christofferson carded an even 100 in the opening round and tied for 18th out of 29 golfers.
