The Valley City State University men's basketball team has finalized its 2013-14 schedule, which includes a marquee road game at North Dakota State University.

The Vikings go on the road to play the Bison, an NCAA Division I team, on Dec. 2. The game will be an exhibition contest for VCSU. It's part of a very tough early-season schedule for the Vikings. Three of the first five games include match-ups with NAIA schools that finished last season rated in the Top 10, including defending national champion Cardinal Stritch University.

Valley City State is coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history after posting 23 wins and qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament last year under head coach Jeff Kaminsky. It was the first time the program has posted back-to-back 20-win seasons. Just five players return from that squad though as the Vikings will incorporate a host of new faces this year.

Valley City State tips off the season Nov. 1-2 with home games against Dordt College and Northwestern College. Dordt finished last year ranked No. 4 and Northwestern was ranked No. 9. The Vikings then take on defending national champion Cardinal Stritch University on Nov. 15 during a tournament in LaCrosse, Wisc.

Road games against NCAA Division II schools University of Minnesota-Crookston and Minot State University are also scheduled within the first month. In late December, VCSU will travel north for the Wesmen Classic at the University of Winnipeg. The Vikings won that tournament in 2011, becoming the first American team to win it in 43 years.

On Jan. 25, VCSU officially opens conference play in the new North Star Athletic Association, going on the road to Mayville State. Conference play will consist of home and away games against Mayville, Dakota State, Presentation College and the University of Jamestown.

Before the first official game Nov. 1, the Vikings will hold their annual Alumni Game on Oct. 19.
