The Valley City State University Vikings let a 15 point lead slip away then rallied for a 71-67 win versus Dickinson State for third place in the Dakota Athletic Conference Tip Off Basketball Tournament.

The Vikings built a 15 point lead with thirteen and a half minutes in the second half and it looked as though they were going to put the Blue Hawks away. Dickinson State had other ideas however as they went on an 18-3 run to take a four point lead with seven minutes to go.

That's when John Raquel took over for the Vikings. Raquel went coast-to-coast for a dribble drive layup to return the lead to the Vikings, a lead they would not relinquish. Raquel would seal the game for the Vikings from the line, shooting 10-11 in free throws in the game including 8 in a row to finish.

Raquel led the Vikings with 18. He was followed by Aaron Duske with 13 and Malcom McDonald came off the bench for the Vikings to post a double-double with 12 points to go along with 12 rebounds.

The win improves the Vikings overall record to 17-6. Valley City State travels to play the same Blue Hawk team on Saturday, January 28.
