Day 8 of camp is now in the books and camp is nearing its end as the freshmen will begin orientation this weekend. With the first game just over two weeks away Coach McCulloch is happy with the progress the players have made to this point in camp. 'Defensively we are looking to determine which guys will provide quality depth, and offensively there are a lot of position battles taking place to determine who will be the starters for our first game.' said Coach McCulloch prior to today's practices.
Assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Gregg Horner said 'I am excited about the infusion of young talent mixed with the veteran players for this team.' This year's defensive unit is led by a talented veteran group up front. Third year offensive coordinator Marty Costello said that 'At this point we need to continue to rep drills and plays in order to become more consistent offensively.' In a speech to the offense on the first day of camp he used an Aristotle quote to help make his point about repetition, 'We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.' He said that if he believes a drill is important the players will rep it daily in order for the technique being employed to become a habit. The Vikings open on the road at Morningside College on Thursday August 30th at 7:00PM. Extended coverage of the Vikings football camp is available on the official VCSU twitter page. (@VCSU_Football) |
