Kenneth Frenette

 
Head Coach for Cross Country and Track & Field

Head Cross Country Coach Ken Frenette begins his first full academic year at Valley City State University as the head coach of the men's and women's cross country and track and field teams.

A four time NCAA Division I conference cross country coach of the year honoree, Ken Frenette has twenty four years of experience as a Head Men's and Women's college coach both on the track & trails.

Frenette’s athletes have earned NCAA Div. I all-conference honors in cross-country 52 times. His athletes have also earned 113 NCAA Division I track & field all-conference accolades. He has had a number of athletes compete nationally and internationally in the NCAA Division I cross country and track & field championships, world junior track & field championships,NAIA Track & Field Championships, the world cross country championships, NACAC Track & Field Championships and the Canadian Track & Field and Cross Country Championships.

Under Coach Frenette’ s guidance his student-athletes have been recognized regionally and nationally for their academic success in earning NCAA Division I All Academic Conference honors over 400 times.

As an NCAA Division I collegiate athlete he established himself as one of the top distance/cross country runners during his college career from 1984-88 in the southeast. He was a two-time Big South Conference cross-country individual champion and earned all-conference honors four times on the trails.

He represented Canada in the 1991 Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba, where he was the top North American finisher and sixth overall in the marathon. He also qualified for the 1992 Canadian Olympic Trials in the 10,000 meters.

A certified USA Level II Track and Field coach in the middle and long distance events, Coach Frenette earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in physical education.

Ryan Brohmer

 
Assistant Coach for Cross Country and Track & Field

Assistant Coach Ryan Brohmer is in his second academic year at Valley City State University as the Assistant Cross Country and Track and Field teams.

Ryan Brohmer has been an assistant with University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (Eau Claire, WI) and Trinity College (Hartford, CT) prior to Valley City State University. The experience and knowledge he brings will be vital in producing successful Valley City State University sprinters, jumpers, and throwers.

Brohmer’s athletes have earned NCAA Division III and NAIA all-conference accolades for track and field 15 times, six of those athletes where crowed conference Champions. His athletes have also earned all-conference accolades for cross country 2 times. 9 athletes have qualified for NCAA Division III and NAIA track and field championships under his guidance; of those athletes 7 other them achieved all-American accolades and 1 was crowned a national champion.

As a NCAA Division III collegiate athlete he demonstrated that he belonged with some of the best throwers, during his college career 2003-2007 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He is a 16 time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athlete Conference qualifier and earned 4 all-conference honors. He also is on University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire all-time performance list in the weight throw, hammer throw, indoor shot put, and discus. Brohmer career was caped of when he achieved NCAA Division III all-American honors in the hammer throw in 2007.

Ryan Brohmer is currently an active member of USA Track and Field as well as USA Track and field and Cross Country Coaches Association and is currently working on achieving his level 1 USATF coach’s certification.
