Casey Olney
Head Baseball Coach

Casey Olney enters his fourth season at VCSU and second season as Head Coach. Olney joined the Vikings staff in 2005 serving as hitting coach, recruiting coordinator, and strength / conditioning coach. 

His first season saw the Vikings finish fith in the DAC while three players earned All-Conference recognition, and one earned All-Region honors.

Olney, 32, is a native of Flaxton, ND. He attended Cibola H.S. in Yuma, AZ and graduated from Central College (IA) in 2004 with a BA in business education.  Olney was voted a team co-captain at Central College in 2004 and received the Central baseball team’s Versteeg Award for outstanding leadership and sportsmanship.

He previously coached youth baseball at the Babe Ruth League and American Legion levels in North Dakota. His 2004 Bismarck Babe Ruth squad won championships at the District, State, and Midwest Plains levels before capturing 3rd place and the Babe Ruth World Series.

Olney also was the head coach for two seasons in Bowbells, North Dakota with the American Legion program. Casey was also an assistant coach for Pella High School and Central College in Pella, Iowa.

Sam Bjorling
Assistant Baseball Coach

Sam Bjorling will begin his second stint this fall as hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at VCSU. A graduate of The University of Iowa, Coach Bjorling joins the Viking staff after a successful stay at Iowa City High where he served as the freshman head coach and assistant varsity coach. In addition, Bjorling was also the head coach of the Johnson County American Legion program.

While at Johnson County coach Bjorling led the Johnnies to back-to-back state championships in 2005 and 2006. Bjorling left Johnson County with an overall record of 70-29 in three seasons.

Prior to transferring to the University of Iowa he attended The University of Dubuque for two seasons and played left field for the Spartans. As a high school Junior Bjorling was a member of the 2-A state champions at St. Albert High in Council Bluffs.
